Chapters Respond with Scholarships and Stipends to Attend Summit
Many chapters are providing various forms of support for their members to attend the STC Summit 3–6 May in Atlanta, GA. These are the programs of which we are aware. Please be sure to consult your local chapter for details and eligibility requirements.
Australia Chapter
The Australia Chapter will pay half the registration for two members.
Berkeley Chapter
The Berkeley Chapter is offering $500 scholarships to six members wishing to attend the Summit.
Boston Chapter
The Boston Chapter is providing five $500 scholarships to members who wish to attend the Summit.
Central Ohio Chapter
The Central Ohio Chapter approved funding to send their vice president to the conference.
Charlotte Regional Chapter
The Charlotte Regional Chapter is holding a drawing from renewed members for a free conference registration.
East Bay Chapter
The East Bay Chapter has $500 scholarships available to its members for conference attendance.
Heartland Chapter
The Heatland Chapter is providing $250 stipends to members attending the conference, provided they give a presentation to the chapter on what they learned.
Houston Chapter
The Houston Chapter is providing $500 for members and $250 for student members who attend the STC Summit in Atlanta in May 2009, up to $7,500 total.
Manitoba Chapter
The Manitoba Chapter is conducting a drawing for members to receive free registration to the conference.
Middle Tennessee Chapter
Middle Tennessee Chapter has committed up to $1,000 to chapter members who wish to attend the conference.
Northeast Ohio Chapter
The Northeast Ohio Chapter raffled two full registrations and will host a dinner for chapter members attending the conference.
Northern New England Chapter
NNE is giving away a free STC Summit registration ($795 value) to one lucky NNE member. Wendy Yurick Wing has details.
Orange County Chapter
Orange County Chapter has five $400 scholarships for members.
Orlando Chapter
The Orlando chapter council approved $3,000 to send three members to the conference. Two officers will go, and the one other member who applies.
Snake River Chapter
Snake River Chapter is paying the registration fee and $400 travel stipend for two members.
Southwestern Ohio Chapter
The Southwestern Ohio Chapter is offering five chapter members $400 toward conference expenses in exchange for a commitment of volunteer time to the chapter.
STC Chicago
STC Chicago is providing matching funds to qualified recipients of the STC Summit Scholarship. The chapter will also offer travel/hotel stipends to qualified members on a first-come, first-served basis.
STC France Chapter
The France chapter will reward the valuable contribution made to this year's STC France Conference by students of Paris Diderot - Paris 7 University's Conception de Documentation Multilingue et Multimédia (CDMM) Masters course by providing $3,000 for two students from the program to travel to the 2009 Technical Communication Summit...
Toronto Chapter
The Toronto Chapter is helping members who apply with $100 per night toward the hotel room costs. The chapter has already awarded $4,600.
United Kingdom and Ireland Chapter
Five chapter members will receive £200 to support their attendance at the Summit in Atlanta. President Ant Davey has details.
Washington DC Chapter
The Washington DC Chapter will provide a subsidy ($400) for members who have been laid off or experienced significant decline in their independent contract business. The chapter is also matching the STC scholarship with a subsidy ($400) for qualified applicants. The chapter will pay a subsidy ($75) for all members who attend the awards banquet.
