The Philadelphia Mural Arts Program (MAP) started in 1984 as a component of the Anti-Graffiti Network (PAGN), a city-wide initiative to eradicate destructive graffiti and address neighborhood blight. As part of this effort, PAGN hired mural artist Jane Golden to reach out to graffiti writers and to redirect their energies to mural-making. There are now over 2,700 murals in over 100 communities throughout Philadelphia--more murals than any other city in the world. Drawing on the styles of artists from different cultures, MAP's murals reflect Philadelphia's wonderfully diverse neighborhoods.
This tour will take you through the West Philadelphia to view their murals. You will travel by trolley bus with a docent who will give you the back story of the mural and provide you with more information about MAP and its work in Philadelphia.
This tour requires a minimum of 25 people and is limited to 35 people. To participate in this tour you must register not later than May 1 st. The cost of the tour includes your transportation and the services of a MAP docent. The cost is $30.00 per person.
