Tricia Spayer

Director at Large

I am proud to serve as STC Director at Large. I joined STC to improve my technical communication skills, and have learned much more than I anticipated. I am excited about the future of STC with its commitment to certification and to promoting our profession.

I believe that you get out much more than you put into the Society. I encourage you as members to participate on committees, within listservs of your communities, and in networking through STC. Try things that might be a little out of your comfort zone (such as serving as a community leader, writing a press release, or trying a new software package to improve your community web site). You will grow personally and professionally, and gain experience, internal satisfaction, and friends.

Tricia Spayer is a senior member of STC and has served the Northeast Ohio Chapter (NEO STC) for the past 10 years. She served in many positions including President, Vice President, Secretary, Immediate Past President, as well as Membership and Bylaws Committee chair.

Tricia’s honors include the Distinguished Chapter Service Award and the President’s Achievement Award from NEO STC. She also served on a committee that achieved the Distinguished award for Public Relations from STC and led the Northeast Ohio Chapter to earn the Chapter of Excellence Award. She received a Merit Award for a technical publications competition and a Best of Show/Excellence Award for an online communications competition.

Tricia is a technical writer/illustrator at Pressco Technology Inc., which engineers and manufactures high-speed, intelligent vision inspection systems for the global food, beverage, and container industries. Despite being a lone writer, she persuaded her company to invest in a content management, single-sourcing solution for use in multiple departments throughout her company, and is the administrator of the database.

Tricia earned her Bachelor of Electronic Engineering (BEET) from ETI Technical College, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Her technical knowledge not only allows her to understand the complex electronics of the machines she documents, but it also allows her to “translate from Engineering to ‘regular’ English for her users.”

Tricia enjoys her Toastmasters membership, which trains her in effective communication and leadership. She also enjoys traveling with her husband and Monte (her stuffed monkey mascot), especially on cruises. She has already visited 30 different countries and intends to see as many as she can in her lifetime.
