Board of Directors

STC is governed on a Society level by an elected board of directors. In addition to the Society leaders, each of STC's more than 110 local chapters elects a set of officers.

Adriane Hunt


Adriane Hunt has more than 30 years’ experience in content strategy, architecture, creation, and deployment. Adriane is a director for one of the world’s leading providers of IT management software and solutions where she manages a global team to produce leading-edge technical content. She is an STC Senior member whose activities include Summit speaker, proposal reviewer and track leader, and regional and ISA judge. Adriane is leveraging her broad knowledge and experience to help STC continue to promote, support, educate, and grow our profession around the globe.

Alyssa Fox

Vice President

Alyssa Fox is an STC Senior Member with over 15 years of experience in technical communication. She is currently the director of information development at an enterprise software company and manages a global team. She has served the Society in multiple Summit committee roles, including Program Chair, on the Intercom Advisory Board, and on various committees.

Bernard Aschwanden

Immediate Past President

Bernard Aschwanden has worked with STC communities online and in person for almost 20 years. He has met with thousands of members, and worked with dozens of communities. He has presented webinars, hosted events with partners, and attended and spoken at conferences on local, regional, and national levels. He has worked with many of our STC partners to develop software and service solutions for people in technical communications. Bernard joined STC in 1997 is an STC Associate Fellow.

Kirsty Taylor


Kirsty is a senior manager of documentation for ABB Enterprise Software product group, and is based in Brisbane, Australia. She is also responsible for product and content localizations globally for the ABB enterprise software products, which means she is used to juggling international time zones and advocating for thinking and being global, rather than only local.

Jane Wilson


Jane is a Senior Member of STC and belongs to the East Bay Chapter and the Atlanta Chapter. She currently works as a Senior Manager at GE Digital in San Ramon, CA, where she leads the information development team providing documentation for GE’s Industrial Internet Applications. As STC Treasurer, Jane chairs the Finance and Investment Committee, which is responsible for the annual budget, financial reserves, and financial processes of the Society.

Liz Herman


Dr. Liz Herman, PMP, CPTC, is a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication, where she has served in various leadership roles in the Eastern Iowa and Washington DC chapters. She is also an active member of the Project Management Institute and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society and enjoys teaching technical communication courses.

Alisa Bonsignore


Alisa Bonsignore runs Clarifying Complex Ideas, a technical communication consultancy based in the San Francisco Bay area. She holds a BA from Bucknell University in English and Political Science with dual minors in Philosophy and Post-Soviet Studies. She is chair of the STC Education Advisory Panel, and has served on the STC Conference Committee.

Cindy Pao

Director at Large

Cindy Pao is an STC Associate Fellow and currently serves as the chair of the Community Affairs Committee. She is the Lead Technical Writer at Harris Health System, where she develops policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines for the IT department. Cindy has about 20 years of experience in technical communication. Cindy has served in many roles in STC, including the Houston community President and Instructional Design & Learning SIG Co-Manager.

Craig Baehr

Director at Large

Craig Baehr, Ph.D., is an STC Associate Fellow and Professor of Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University, with 23 years of technical communication experience. He chairs the Technical Communication Body of Knowledge (TCBOK) project and is Faculty Sponsor for the STC Texas Tech University Student Chapter. He is author of Web Development: A Visual-Spatial Approach and Writing for the Internet: A Guide to Real Communication in Virtual Space and has published material on a wide range of topics, including instructional design, content strategy, hypertext theory, online publishing, and visual communication.  Previously, he worked in industry as a technical writer, editor, Web developer, and program director for ten years for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He has been a member of STC since 2000.
