To be eligible for a student membership, an applicant must be:
The name of the school, department, name of student advisor, email address, and phone number is required as verification of a students enrollment
To qualify as a student member, one must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college, or technical school and be taking at least two courses or their equivalent each term. The signature of a faculty member is required as verification of a student's enrollment.
STC has more than 11,000 members and 120 chapters worldwide. STC is the world's largest professional association serving the technical communication profession.
STC's membership includes technical communicators employed in a wide range of job disciplines including technical writers, usability specialists, document managers, documentation specialists, technical editors, information developers, technical illustrators, technical translators, managers of technical communication departments, teachers of technical communication, web designers, students, consultants, and photographers.
STC members may join special interest groups with several professional interests. Membership may be worldwide, providing a diversity of views, information, and support.
STC currently has more than 20 SIGs. A definition of each SIG and registration forms are available at the SIG Information Page. The cost for SIG membership is $10 annually.

Each year STC conducts a survey of its members from which it compiles information about the salaries of technical communicators in the United States. STC members may download the salary survey free of charge from the STC Web site. Please see the salary database page.
