STC’s 2009 election is now open and will run through 9 April 2009. All ballots must be received by noon, EDT (GMT -4), on 9 April 2009.
The election process is important to STC’s future since these leaders will be guiding the organization. Thank you for doing your part to make STC a vibrant, growing organization.
STC members eligible to vote in the 2009 election have been emailed their election username and password. A paper ballot has been mailed to all individuals requesting one and to those for whom STC did not have a valid email address.
Eligible voters are members who either joined or renewed for the 2009 membership year by 28 February 2009. Please note that student members are not eligible to vote.
If you have not received your election username and password, please contact the STC Office or call +1 (703) 522-4114.
STC is your association. Please take a moment to get to know the candidates for the Society’s top elected positions.
Members may ask questions of the candidates. To ensure fairness, all candidates for a particular office have an opportunity to answer any questions that members might ask. For example:
When you ask a question of one of the candidates for second vice president, all candidates for that position get the question. (Please note that candidates are not obligated to answer questions.)
When you ask a question to one of the candidates for director, all candidates for that position get the question. (Please note that candidates are not obligated to answer questions.)
When you ask a question to one of the nominating committee, all candidates for that position will get the question. (Please note that candidates are not obligated to answer questions.)
The “View my Biography” section (link under each candidate’s name) also includes answers to questions posed to the candidates by the Nominating Committee.
Reminder: STC’s bylaws were revised in 2008 to be consistent with New York State law. Under the new STC bylaws, the first vice president shall automatically succeed to the office of president and the second vice president shall automatically succeed to the office of first vice president. Therefore, Cindy Currie, who is the current first vice president, is STC’s incoming president, and Michael Hughes, who is the current second vice president, is STC’s incoming first vice president.
STC’s former practice of permitting a “yes” or “no” vote for the incoming president and first vice president was eliminated in the revision of the bylaws because such a vote contradicts the intention of automatic succession. Therefore, when you get your ballot, neither Cindy’s nor Michael’s name will appear.

The STC Bylaws specify that the second vice president automatically becomes the first vice president the following year and the president after that. Thus, second vice president is the highest officce to which a member is routinely elected.
