Academic Programs

One of the incorporating principles of the Society is to "guide and inform students and to aid colleges and universities in the establishment of curricula for training in the arts and sciences of technical communication." STC provides support to teachers and students of technical communication through programs, scholarships, grants and loans, annual conferences, and seminars. The Society also provides information about events and courses related to technical communication.

Academic Programs Database
To assist those interested in pursuing a career in technical communication, STC provides a database of academic programs worldwide. Schools are welcome to add their programs to the database.

STC encourages the study of technical communication through its student competitions and honorary fraternities for students of technical communication. The Society also provides a database of academic programs in technical communication.

Student Competitions
STC offers cash prizes to winners of its student competitions for high school students.

Honorary Fraternities
Sigma Tau Chi (STX) and Alpha Sigma (AS) are STC's honorary fraternities. Each recognizes students enrolled in a technical communication program who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above, are exemplary in participation in STC, and demonstrate a potential for significant contribution to the profession.

Sigma Tau Chi (STX) recognizes students in baccalaureate and graduate progams; Alpha Sigma (AS) recognizes students in two-year and certificate programs.
