Candidate for Nominating Committee

Phylise Banner is the director for teaching and curriculum quality at American Public University System, where her work focuses primarily on the alignment of faculty development workshop and outreach programs with effective practices in online course design and delivery.

She has been working in the field of online teaching and learning since 1997, planning, designing, developing, and delivering online courses, programs, and faculty-development initiatives. She regularly embraces opportunities to experiment with emerging technologies in order to best serve adult students at a distance and to create communities of lifelong learners.

She presents regularly at regional, national and international conferences on the topics of faculty development, the CoI framework, instructional design, information design, experience design, social media, information visualization and GIS technologies. She also teaches Digital Storytelling and Social Media online courses for Empire State College and SUNYIT.

Phylise is an Adobe Education Leader, STC Fellow, avid angler, aviation enthusiast, and currently training to be a private pilot.

 

Candidate Statement:

The STC has the potential to shape the future of every single technical communication professional, and the role each of us plays in the world. To do this, we need future leaders who are willing to go beyond a static vision of the status quo.

My commitment is to explore our membership communities for leaders who are willing to embrace imagination, and take creative approaches to supporting the academic and professional needs of our ever-evolving disciplines.
