There are geographies where STC is far more active as compared to many other 'technologically developed areas' in the world, for example, in many European countries. What is STC doing for globalization of the organization, and to generate awareness of its initiatives and campaigns, plans, policies, and benefits and rewards?

We recognize that we have work to do as an organization to serve our members well, regardless of where they live and work. Two years ago, I led a committee of volunteers to examine areas where we need to do a better job of being a global organization. Like any other organization that attempts to globalize, it's an ongoing effort.

The Board has been prioritizing and implementing the recommendations of the Globalization Audit Task Forces as time and resources allow. The financial crisis of a couple of years ago delayed some initiatives more than anyone would have liked, but the awareness and desire are there.

I am optimistic that STC will continue to develop as a global organization. Regardless of the outcome of the election, this is an area I'm passionate about and will continue to push for. I think that being a global organization is key to STC's long-term viability, and to the continued advancement of the profession globally.

STC is a global organization, but currently a large proportion of our members are from North America. We need to serve all our members, regardless of where they are. As we find ways to better serve all our members, I believe we will see membership increases outside North America.

I am very happy to see strategic partnerships forming and strengthening with other organizations, such as tekom, who have a strong presence in areas outside North America. I am hopeful that through additional programs and partnerships, we can better serve technical communication professionals around the world in a cost-effective manner.
