The Ken Rainey Award honors the distinguished research contributions of Dr. Rainey.
Ken Rainey was a professor at Southern Polytechnic State University and STC Fellow who produced major research studies that continue to provide ongoing benefit to both practice and teaching in the field of technical communication.
The Ken Rainey Award honors research that has made positive, significant contributions to technical communication practice and teaching. It rewards a lifetime of quality research in the field, a single high-quality empirical study, or a set of related high-quality studies.
2012 Honorees
ANN BLAKESLEE
Citation: For her leading-edge research on issues of audience, her exploration of connections between academia and industry, her contributions to training new generations of researchers in qualitative methods, and the clarity and power of her arguments for applying theory to practice.
MENNO DE JONG
Citation: For his pioneering use of methods for formative analysis of audience response to public documents, his contribution to the training of a large number of scholars, and the significant impact of his work in expanding our understanding of best practice in the field.

Who is eligible: STC Members who have belonged to the Society for a minimum of one year
Who may recommend: Any member may nominate, or members may apply directly
Due date for recommendations: 2 November 2012
Due date for applications by recommended candidates: 14 December 2012
Honorees notified: After vote by STC Board of Directors, usually February
Award Presented: At the Honors Banquet at the STC Technical Communication Summit
