Reach Out, Connect, and Recruit
Every time you recruit a new member, you strengthen STC. A vital and growing STC membership means greater recognition of technical communicators, improved educational and networking opportunities for members, and the advancement of the profession. Why not reach out and share the same valuable opportunities with your colleagues?
Did you know that a large percentage of new members join STC simply because someone invited them? Reaching out and recruiting a member is easy when you find yourself interacting with colleagues at meetings, online, on the job, or while networking. Simply tell your colleagues how you have benefited from your membership in STC and suggest that they visit http://www.stc.org/membership/ to learn more about membership and to join. And when they join, you'll save money off your own membership dues, too!
STC’s Member Get a Member Campaign (MGAM) is really about you. We know that you understand the value of your STC membership and now is the perfect time to reach out to your professional contacts and recruit them to join STC. And, when you recruit a new member, we want to reward you.
Click on the links to the right to find important information on how you can recruit new members and save money off your own membership dues, too! The Campaign runs through 15 January 2012.
Recruiting a Member Is Easy!
You see potential new members every day at work, on social media, and at networking events or meetings. Talk to them about STC and invite them to join. It's a conversation that could benefit both of you.
Communities Can Get Involved, Too!
Community events often include nonmembers; talk to these attendees and tell them everything they can get with STC membership. Send an email to your listserv, put up a post on your blog, or issue an open invitation on your website. Your community could win great prizes from STC!
Bonus Months for New Members
A new member joining now for 2012 gets the rest of 2011 for free! That's up to three months more of access to MySTC, Intercom, Technical Communication, and all the other benefits of being an STC member. The sooner they join, the sooner they can take advantage of everything STC offers.
How is Credit Given for a New Recruit?
Individuals
When a friend or colleague joins STC on your recommendation, they simply fill in your name on the online application form. Every time you recruit an individual member, one point is given. One point is equal to $10—up to a maximum of five credits, or $50—toward your 2012 STC membership. When a student member is recruited, a half a point is given. (You must recruit two students to receive credit toward your membership dues.) STC will keep track of your recruitment activity for you and post your recruitment activity on the results pages. It's that simple.
Chapters and SIGS
Each chapter or SIG must recruit a set number (see link to right for details) of new members to qualify for entry in each prize drawing. Every time the number of new member recruits is met, the chapter or SIG’s name will continually be entered into each prize drawing. The more entries, the greater the odds of winning one or more of the prizes for the members of your community.
The new member must include your name or your community's name when signing up to get credit.
Prefer to Refer?
It may be more convenient or appropriate for you to provide us with contact information for an individual who is a candidate for membership, and we take the next step. Send the potential new member’s complete contact information to Stacey O'Donnell, and we will send membership information and an application.
Whether you recruit or refer a new member, you will be contributing to the growth of STC. Get started today!
