Technical Writer opening at Topcon America Corporation

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Create, edit, write and publish operator’s manuals, installation/calibration manuals, quick start guides, service manuals, and online help for various Topcon Positioning Systems business divisions (including GNSS, Survey, Machine Control and Telematics). Collaborate with engineers and other subject matter experts on document content. Position may also include modifying photos, illustrations, designing product and serial number labels, and uploading files to a document control system.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

· BA in English/Technical Writing preferred or 5 years technical writing experience or 3 - 5 years technical writing experience with some college.
· Experience using Adobe FrameMaker and Adobe Creative Suite highly desirable.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Must be proactive in gathering information from subject matter experts.
· Native-level fluency with English. Demonstrated writing ability.
· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
· Familiarity with the following a PLUS………
o Experience with GNSS, Survey, GPS or Telematics (Construction and agriculture industries)
o Hardware and software engineering release
o Engineering drawings
o Photography

JOB DESCRIPTION

Document software and hardware for network storage products aimed at the home and business markets. This is an on-site position at NETGEAR’s North San Jose campus.
Responsibilities

- Create task-oriented documentation for new products in fast-paced business environment
- Update existing hardware and software documentation
- Track documentation deliverables as part of an overall product development schedule
- Liaise with external writing contractors to ensure their writing meets the overall schedule
- Coordinate illustrations and editing
- Work hand-in-glove with project engineers and product managers to clarify and resolve issues
- Handle special projects
- Work cross-functionally with local and remote teams, including software and hardware engineers, QA, tech support, localization, and marketing
- Distill and communicate technical information to audiences with a wide range of technical knowledge
- Follow departmental and company policies to create and release documentation
- Readily adapt to changing priorities
- Attend on-site weekly cross-functional team status meetings
- Manage multiple projects

REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Experience with single-source technical writing, especially DITA
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat Professional
- Familiarity with print and online document delivery

SCHEDULE/HOURS:

Full-time, 40 hours per week, on-site position (no remote work or telecommuting).

Convio, which creates cloud software for non-profit organizations such as Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Livestrong, is looking to fill a junior technical writer position.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

We are looking for a junior technical writer with 1-3 years of experience. The job posting on our site says that we are looking for someone for the Austin office, but, due to a recent organizational change, the position could also be filled in our Emeryville office. Our company, Convio, was just acquired by Blackbaud and, as of today, we have a new tech pubs manager. He doesn’t care where the writer is geographically located, as long as we get a good candidate.
