This group provides a forum for the treasurers of STC communities to discuss financial issues, best practices, and questions relating to the administration STC communities

Thursday, 14 June 2012 by Aiessa M. Moyna

We want your feedback! Any STC member who is interested in the community funding model is invited to attend.

The STC Board of Directors is considering alternatives to the community funding model now in place for chapters and SIGs. STC Treasurer Aiessa Moyna will explain the options being considered, as well as the schedule and process for collecting input from STC members. During an extended Q&A session, you’ll have a chance to ask questions and provide feedback.

Thursday, 21 June, 2012, 1:00-2:30pm EDT (GMT-4)

This webinar is free and open to all STC members, sponsored by the STC Community Affairs Committee (CAC). It will be recorded.
Registration is now open. Login is required.

Hi, There is a general treasurer's guide put out by the Society. It is under MYSTC > Leadership Resources > Treasurer's Manual. manual march 2011.pdf I believe there was talk of editing and reviewing it this year, but it should still be helpful to you now, though. I also have a shorter guide for my chapter finances, if you'd like to see it. It is not specific to SIGs, though. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help you. Timothy Esposito

Hi Sarah, Receipts depend on the size of the donation - if it's under a certain amount, you are not required to provide a receipt. I think the threshold is $250. Aiessa Moyna or Greg Larsen have more information, I'm sure. Last year we had a treasurers' webinar about submitting financial reports to the Society and filing taxes. (Something is probably in the works for this year and we just haven't received an announcement yet.) The 2011 webinar is posted under the Leadership Resources section. If your chapter has revenues less than $50,000, the tax process is very simple. You just have to fill out a quick online form. The deadline is in April, the same as for your own taxes. I hope this helps! Lisa Mileusnich Northeast Ohio Chapter Treasurer

The recording of the recent Leadership Resource webinar, Community Finances: Sustainable Programming, is now available on the STC website at under the heading "Archived Leadership Webinars." The session featured a panel discussion with Cindy Pao, Treasurer of the Instructional Design & Learning SIG, and Timothy Esposito, Treasurer of the Philadelphia Metro Chapter, who discussed ways that their communities have taken steps to work toward more sustainable programming.
