Members Receive 38 Free Archived Seminars

When you signed up for or renewed your STC membership for 2011, you were promised two free archived seminars as part of your membership package. These seminars, archives from the 2009 Technical Communication Summit, are now online! However, to celebrate this new member offering, we're giving you all 38 free instead of just two! To access these archives, you must log in on www.stc.org. Click My STC in the header or Site Access at the top of the screen. Then go to the Education tab on the header and select "Free Archived Webinars." Note: This menu item only shows up when you're logged in. If you're already logged in on STC.org, just click here for a list of the archives then click on the sessions you're interested in.

Your STC Needs Your Nominations

For those who attended the STC Summit and put in a Nomination Form, either for yourself or someone else, we offer a big thank you. For those who didn't get their arms gently twisted in Sacramento, don't feel left out. You can still nominate yourself, or someone you feel would make an excellent Society-level officer, by completing the Nomination Form. For 2012, STC members will elect a Vice President, Secretary, Directors (four positions), and Nominating Committee members (two positions). See the STC election page for more information, descriptions of the roles, and to download a nomination form. The Nominating Committee will be contacting nominees over the next six weeks. If you, or the person you nominated, hasn't been contacted by the end of June, please email stc_election@stc.org.

Judith Herr Receives President's Award

Judith Herr, co-chair of the Community Affairs Committee and a longtime member of the STC Board of Directors, was honored with the President's Award at the STC Summit on 15 May, joyfully presented by STC President Hillary Hart as part of the Summit's Opening Session. Herr's citation reads: "For your longtime championship of all STC communities and the value they bring to STC. For your vision in bringing the Community Affairs Committee to life and your tireless work on fostering productive two-way communication between STC members and the STC Board."

Congratulations to Judy on this wonderful honor. STC thanks you for your years of service to the Society.

Student Voting Amendment Passes

The member-proposed amendment to allow student voting was approved by an overwhelming majority at the STC Annual Business Meeting on 16 May at the Summit in Sacramento, CA. STC member Bill Swallow introduced the amendment through a petition earlier in the year, and after 20 minutes of debate the matter was put to a vote. A two-thirds majority of the 100-plus voting members was necessary to amend the bylaws, but the vote was so one-sided that an exact count was unnecessary. For more information, including the new wording of the bylaw and reactions from a couple members, see STC's Notebook.

More Tales from the Summit

STC's annual Honors Banquet was held at the Summit, on 17 May, with individuals and communities honored for their achievements this past year. Introduced this year were two new awards: Most Improved Community and Community of the Year. Click here for a rundown of all the honorees.

STC President Hillary Hart and Vice President Alan Houser graciously took some time out of their busy schedules to sit for a pair of video interviews. You can see them here. And if you want to get a taste of the Summit, you can read through the Twitter stream of #stc11 posts on the Summit home page. Or just read the glowing reviews tweeted and collected on STC's Notebook!
