Ben Woelk, CISSP, CPTC, is Program Manager for the Rochester Institute of Technology Information Security Office. Ben holds degrees from the University of Florida, Trinity International University, and the University of Rochester, and an Advanced Certificate in Technical Information Design from RIT. Ben teaches courses in Technical Communication, Computing Security, Cyber Security Policy and Law, and Introverted Leadership. Prior to joining RIT, Ben provided technical communications and change management consulting to a number of Rochester-area Fortune 500 companies.
Ben is an STC Associate Fellow and the 2017 recipient of the STC President’s Award. A frequent contributor to Intercom and other publications, he served as Intercom guest editor twice, most recently for the February 2017, “Personality, Temperament, and Technical Communication” issue. Ben was a keynote speaker for the 2018 ISTC Technical Communication UK and presents frequently at regional and international technical communication and cyber security conferences. Ben has served his local chapter, STC Rochester, in many positions, including president and Spectrum Conference co-chair. Ben’s STC service includes a term as Director and Chair of the Community Affairs Committee (2013-15) and he championed the establishment of the current STC Scholarship program.
Ben's current interests include working with other higher education security awareness practitioners to develop effective programs solutions, mentoring and coaching new and aspiring introverted leaders, and speaking and presenting workshops on introverted leadership, creating security awareness programs, and technical communication. Ben is the creator and host of the Hope for the Introvert podcast.
