Designing for Non-Designers

Wednesdays, 11 October through 15 November 2023; 1:00 to 2:30 PM Eastern time (GMT-4)

Registration closes on 10 October 2023

Do you struggle to make your documents look good? Do you wish you had some design tips to make your documents, or presentations look appealing to your audience?

Learn about the principles of design that can be applied to any project you’re working on. Often, projects don’t have the budget to bring in a graphic designer, but with this course, you’ll learn how a graphic designer thinks, tools they use, and how you can apply this to your own work.

By the end of the course, you won’t be thinking just about how to make something look pretty, but how you can direct your audience’s attention to where you need them to look. This is the power of using the principles of graphic design in your work.

Objectives

You will learn how to:

  • Apply the principles of graphic design to your print pieces, websites, social media posts, emails, and presentations so the content resonates with your audience
  • Use psychology to direct your audience’s eyes to where you want them to look
  • Use free and affordable tools to create better graphics quickly and easily
  • Redesign examples (or your own work) so that it applies the principles of design
  • Design a simple infographic, Word or PowerPoint template

Intended Audience

This course is for design beginners and anyone that creates their own graphics, white pages, flyers, social media posts, infographics, presentations, diagrams, etc. and who wants to learn how to design them, so they are more appealing, resonate with their audience, and are visually engaging. During this course, we will go over design principles so that even if you are new to design, you will leave with guidance on how to make your graphics appeal to your audience.
