Catching Up with Larry Kunz, 2010 President’s Award Winner

STC President—whoops, make that Immediate Past President now—Cindy Currie announced the President's Award winners yesterday, as seen in the below blog post. Your Friendly Neighborhood Blogger caught up with one winner, Rick O'Sullivan, yesterday afternoon. This morning I sat down with Larry Kunz.

Larry was unaware he was receiving the award; luckily, he was in attendance for the Opening Keynote Session. I asked him when he realized exactly what was going on, and he laughed and said, “When she said ‘strategic planning' about 10 times in 30 seconds.”

He was recognized for his work with the Board during the financial crisis, guiding them in putting together the Strategic Plan. We talked about the working relationship. “The people on the Board are so energetic and insightful,” he said. “It was a pleasure and honor to work with them.” He described his part as, “I helped them keep the big picture in mind. It would have been easy to forget about the future while managing the immediate crisis; they kept the vision in mind.”

Larry was certainly surprised by the award, and honored as well. “I have a lot of regard and affection for STC,” he said. “The fact that they would recognize me like this means a lot.”

And for the future that he kept the Board's eye on? “Keep believing in STC,” Larry asserted. “STC should be synonymous with the profession. Stick with it; it's well worth it.”
