STC Hires New IT/Web Content Manager

STC is pleased to announce the hiring of Ralph “Chip” Boyd to be STC's IT/Web Content Manager. He has extensive web development and IT management experience. Chip was the Webmaster at ACORE, a member-supported nonprofit organization, helping to revamp their total Web presence and social media structure. Prior to that, he managed the Web and IT departments for Ferrari Maserati of Washington, a group of exotic-car dealerships. His first position right out of school was with an advertising agency, creating websites for clients. His experience combines a unique mix of general IT knowledge with a focus on standards-based Web development and social networking and media.

Chip graduated in 2005 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) of Troy, NY, with a degree in Electronic Media, Arts, and Communications and a focus on human-computer interaction. Following graduation, he has continued to expand his knowledge of information architecture and Web-based teaching. He grew up in Central New Jersey and lives in Vienna, VA, very close to the STC office.

As part of his vision statement on STC’s website, Chip has written, “The incredible content that STC can provide needs only a simple, straightforward, and user-oriented way to reach the world. I am eager to work with STC and its members to lead the way.”

Chip is the second technical communicator to join the STC staff.  Liz Pohland, an STC member and doctoral student in Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University, is the Editor of Intercom and brings over 15 years of experience in publishing as a content and publications manager, writer, editor, and designer. Liz understands technical communication deeply and has greatly improved Intercom’s content and online presence.

Chip has the practical experience of creating new websites and utilizing social media networking and media tools for business and nonprofit users.  Plus, Chip has a warm and accessible manner to be able to provide support to members and the staff alike.

Read his official staff bio here. You can email Chip at his personal STC account or the STC Webmaster account.

Chip replaces STC Webmaster Shaf Syed. STC would like to thank Shaf for his years of service and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

Please join us in welcoming Chip on board!
