Two New Awards Introduced at STC Honors Banquet

Two new awards were introduced last night, 17 May, at the STC Honors Banquet in Sacramento, CA. In addition to welcoming new Fellows and Associate Fellows; honoring the recipients of the Frank R. Smith, Ken Rainey, and Jay R. Gould awards; celebrating Best of Show winners in the International Summit Awards; and naming Communities of Distinction and winners of the Pacesetter Awards, STC introduced two new community awards: Most Improved Community and Community of the Year.

The Most Improved Community award goes to a community that stepped up their game the most between 2009 and 2010, based on their applications for the Community Achievement Award. The inaugural Most Improved Community Award went to the Rocky Mountain Chapter.

The Community of the Year recipient had the highest score of all of our outstanding Communities of Distinction. The inaugural Community of the Year Award went to the Chicago Chapter. Congratulations to Chicago!

All award winners will be posted to the STC website very shortly. You can see a list of the new Fellows and Associate Fellows here. Other awards, in no particular order:

Best of Show: SAMHSA Permanent Supportive Housing Toolkit, User Support category, entered by Chandria Jones, Pamela Fisher, and Carol Bianco; Pictures of the Future (Siemens), Information Materials category, entered by Arthur Pease
Frank R. Smith: Tatiana Batova
Jay R. Gould: Tharon Howard, Charles Kostelnick, and Mark Randol Zachry
Ken Rainey: Stephanie Rosenbaum
Communities of Distinction: Atlanta Chapter, Chicago Chapter, IDL SIG, Technical Editing SIG

Congratulations to all honorees for their wonderful achievements. As President Hillary Hart said at the end of the event, “These are the stars of our profession. Each and every one of them is a credit to STC and, more importantly, to the profession of technical communication. It is by your individual achievements that we are able to advance the profession, so thank you from all of us.”
