IDL, Scientific Communication SIGs Cohosting Conveying Messages with Graphs Webinar

The Instructional Design & Learning SIG and the Scientific Communication SIG invite all STC members (as well as nonmembers) to join them for their cohosted webinar Conveying Messages with Graphs, presented by Jean-luc Doumont on Wednesday, 12 September from 1:30-3:00 PM EDT (GMT-4).

Although widely used to analyze and to communicate about data, graphical displays are still poorly mastered by researchers and professional communicators alike, who often use the wrong graphs or use them in the wrong way (and popular software does not exactly help). Based on Doumont's book Trees, Maps, and Theorems about effective communication for rational minds, the talk discusses:

  • How to select the right graph for a given data set and a given message or research question
  • How to optimize the graph's construction to reveal the data
  • How to phrase a useful caption

The cost is $10 for members of the cohosting SIGs, $20 for all other STC members, and $30 for nonmembers. Register now and find out how to best use graphs to convey information!

After you register, you will receive an email about paying for the webinar. Once we receive your payment, you will receive a confirmation email from Go To Webinar (check your spam folder if you do not receive this email). If you do not receive a confirmation email, please contact programs@stcidlsig.org.
