The STC Election Closes This Friday—Please Vote!

Though most of STC's members know me for my work with our communities, I am also the staff liaison to STC's nominating committee. What does that mean? It means that I'm very close to everything that happens throughout the election process, from the collection of the initial nomination forms at the conference to the scheduling of candidate orientation sessions to the management of the STC election websites and login credentials to the moderation of candidate Q&A.

If it involves a candidate for office with STC, I work on it, manage it, or see it through.

This year marks the third STC election I've overseen, and I'd like to share some data with you:

  • In 2011, just 853 STC members voted, for a total of 19.09% of eligible voters participating.
  • In 2012, that number fell to 787 voters, for a total of just 15.69% of eligible voters.
  • As of this writing, with just 3 days, 7 hours and 40 minutes left until the 2013 election closes, only 470 votes have been cast, for a total of 10.32% of eligible voters.

Just 10.32% of eligible voters have cast a vote. Only 10% of the Society's members have had their say.

What about you?

When the election is over, I work directly with the elected members of the STC Board. These are the people who work every day to shape the future course of the Society. Your Society. If the direction and focus of the Society of Technical Communication is important to you, I urge you to vote. In an organization of our size, every vote really does count.

If you haven't voted yet because you'd like to find out more about the candidates, you can do so here. If you'd like to read or participate in the candidate Q&A, you can find it here. Get informed, then visit the STC online ballot and cast your vote. (You must have joined or renewed by 28 February 2013 to be eligible to vote. If you did not receive your login credentials for the online balloting website, please contact stc_election@stc.org and I will provide them for you.)

The election closes this Friday, 22 March, at 5:00 PM EDT (GMT-4). Don't miss your chance to participate in determining the future of STC—please vote today.
