Board Meeting Summaries for 2013

The STC Board of Directors meets monthly to conduct business. Following is an overview of what the board discussed from January through May 2013. To see the full summaries, visit the STC website (login required).

January 2013

The board approved the Associate Fellow nominees. Various staff members also reported to the board about membership, education, and finances.

February 2013

The board reviewed and approved winners of various awards, including the Community Achievement Awards and Honorary Fellow. The board was also updated on the ongoing audit.

The board discussed various proposals and strategic initiatives.

March 2013

The board discussed various strategic initiatives, including the Advisory Council and ideas for forming alliances with other groups. The board also discussed STC and STCCC budgets.

April 2013

The board reviewed and approved the Pacesetter Award winners.

Steve Skojec presented a communities report to the board, and Nicky Bleiel reviewed current STC initiatives and their progress over the last year.

May 2013

Chris Lyons, the new STC Executive Director, was introduced to the board. Dave Goch, STC Board Attorney, reviewed duties of board members. Hillary Hart reported that our recent audit report was complete and we had good results.

The board heard reports on several topics over several days:

  • Steve Skojec reviewed the current status of STC chapters and the current process for chapter dissolution.
  • Lloyd Tucker updated the board on the various types of online education we provide and ideas for upcoming offerings.
  • Liz Pohland discussed our content mission, opportunities, and challenges for the coming year.
  • Hillary Hart discussed the current status of the Body of Knowledge.
  • Nicky Bleiel discussed a proposal for the International Summit Awards.
  • Aiessa Moyna reported on current Nominating Committee activities.
  • Pam Brewer reported on the current mentoring initiative and proposed changes to policies for student honor societies.
  • Phylise Banner discussed the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) planned for STC.

The board discussed strategic plans for the coming year.

The STC board and STC Certification Commission met jointly to discuss the current status of the certification program.
