Weekly Education Roundup: Develop an Effective Workflow for Your Content Strategy

School's back in session! We've got some great webinars and online courses coming up. Make the most of your membership by beefing up your education report card.

This Week:

Is your content under-performing? Have a lot of public-facing content you don’t know how to assess? Content Strategy: Developing an Effective Workflow is a six-session online course that provides you with the skills needed to successfully craft a winning content strategy for any organization. Presented by Guiseppe Getto, an Assistant Professor of Technical and Professional Communication at East Carolina University and founder of Content Garden Inc., this course covers all the essentials of content strategy, including content auditing, SEO, creating a plan, and measuring success. This course will help you produce effective, audience-focused content for any channel, online or offline. It begins 26 September and runs through 31 October on Tuesdays from noon-1:30 PM EDT (GMT-4).

Visualizing data through charts, graphs, and diagrams helps you deliver bite-sized information that viewers can understand at a glance and retain for the long run. But how do you go about choosing the correct colors for these visuals? Rather than providing a broad overview of data visualization, this webinar will dive deeply into color. You’ll learn techniques for using color more strategically than you ever have before. You’ll also view before/after makeovers from real projects so you can begin thinking about how to apply these techniques to your own work. Hosted by Ann K. Emery of Emery Analytics, LLC, Branding, Categorization, and Colorblindness: Using Color Strategically in Data Visualizations will be held 27 September from 2:00-3:00 EDT (GMT-4).

We also have another great FREE Adobe-Sponsored Member-Only Webinar on the docket this week: Pack Your Bags, We're Moving to FrameMaker and DITA, presented by Bernard Aschwanden. Moving from one software tool to another includes migrating content out of one and into another.  Success depends on source content that is as clean and ‘correct’ as possible. Join Bernard as he takes content from Microsoft Word, cleans up the formats, and moves it into FrameMaker. Once in FrameMaker he’ll show how to continue the migration to DITA. No extra tools, no extra software, just clean content with samples from start to end that you can create and test yourself. The webinar will be held on 28 September from 2:00-3:00 EDT (GMT-4).

Next week:

Coming up, we've got another busy week chock full of webinars (both paid and free) and a new asynchronous online course.

First up is Making the Case for Technical Communication Industry Codes, presented by Andrea Brennan of Teamplete, LLC on 4 October from 2:00-3:00 PM EDT (GMT-4).

Next, we've got another Free Adobe-Sponsored STC Member-Only webinar hosted by Matt Sullivan: Managing Templates for Maximum Content Efficiency. This is the third webinar in the series of free webinars that Adobe's sponsored, and is sure to fill up quickly. The webinar takes place on 5 October from 2:00-3:00 EDT (GMT-4).

Friday, 6 October kicks off our newest asynchronous course, Make Change Happen: How to Build a Business Case, instructed by Lisa Pietrangeli of 36Software. As an asynchronous course, there aren't regular live class sessions; attendees have until 10 November to complete the coursework. Lisa will also hold two live chat sessions on 17 October and 25 October at Noon to discuss the progress and final of the course.
