This entry is being posted on behalf of Jackie Damrau, candidate for Nominating Committee in the 2018 STC election. More information about Jackie can be found on her STC election page. You can ask questions of the candidates on the STC Election Forum. The election begins 26 February and runs through 9 March.
I’m honored to be a candidate for Nominating Committee on the 2018 STC ballot. STC has been the organization that has helped propel me in my technical communication career and subsequently in the multiple career changes I have made. I feel that technical communication plays a role in any job that requires writing.
As a Nominating Committee member, one must have a vast knowledge of STC, a large network of STC members, and be willing to speak to any STC member regarding the Society, running for office, or simply being an STC ambassador. In this role, I must be an active listener and act as a voice for the members. As an active listener and a voice for you, I want to listen to your views on what is good about STC, what is not so good, and what ways you feel it could be better for you and all our members. It might be that your ideas are the greatest in which I might encourage “you” to run for a Society-level office. Having served in many roles at the local and the international level, I feel these two attributes are key to being successful in serving the STC membership.
My STC career includes serving as the current Book Review Editor for the Technical Communication journal and on the 2018 Distinguished Chapter Service Award committee. I have also served on the Jay Gould Award (2015) and Frank R. Smith Award (2014) committees, as well as the International Summit Committee (chair and judge), Leadership Committee Resource (chair), and Nominating Committee (elected member and chair).
At the local STC level, I am a past president of the North Texas Lone Star chapter including many other roles. My SIG involvement is as past Manager for the IDL and Management SIGs.
My honors include two Certificates of Appreciation (2010-2011); President’s Award (2009); Fellow (2008); and Associate Fellow (2006). I assisted my communities in receiving Society-level awards (1998-present).
STC is the one source for technical communicators to continue to enhance their skills. It offers so much and continues to expand the envelope by reaching out socially to more members.

Thank you for your interest in STC. Please vote in the election for your future leaders. We are your “voice.”
