Recipient of the 2022 Ken Rainey Award for Distinguished Research

 

 

STC is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2022 Ken Rainey Award for Distinguished Research 

Ken Rainey was a professor at Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University) and STC Fellow who produced major research studies that continue to provide ongoing benefit to both practice and teaching in the field of technical communication. The Ken Rainey Award honors research that has made positive, significant contributions to technical communication practice and teaching. It rewards a lifetime of quality research in the field, a single high-quality empirical study, or a set of related high-quality studies.

The Society for Technical Communication is pleased to announce Lisa Melonçon as the 2022 recipient of the Ken Rainey Award for Distinguished Research. Dr. Melonçon has made a lifetime of contributions across different fields within technical communication, with an impressive depth and breadth. Dr. Melonçon has made major milestone accomplishments across the rhetoric of health and medicine, research methods, pedagogy, and user experience. One letter in support of her nomination described Dr. Melonçon as “the premier scholar of TPC programs in the United States.” Her research has “undoubtedly transformed the ways technical communication is taught, practiced, and researched across both academia and industry.” Her “attunement to issues of access and accessibility have been immensely important as a bridge to the field of disability studies.” Furthermore, Dr. Melonçon has contributed to the field through her unwavering dedication to mentoring others’ research.
