Call for Posters: STC Student Poster Competition

The STC Academic SIG invites individual submissions to a student poster competition at the 2014 STC Summit. Selected posters will be presented at the Summit in Phoenix on Tuesday, 20 May 2014. Awards will be presented that evening at the Honors Banquet.

Current Research Topics in Technical Communication:  Submit innovative work in communicating technical content, managing a technical communication group, producing and publishing content, researching content, or promoting the profession.

Who Can Enter:  Undergraduate and graduate students. Students do not need to be members of STC to enter. (See Attending the Summit, below.)

How to Submit:  Submit your poster and an abstract as attached PDFs to an email.

Email guidelines: Include

  • Your full name
  • Title of poster
  • Classification: undergraduate or graduate
  • Phone number
  • Email subject line: STC student poster competition 2014
  • Email to the following:  admin@stc-academic.org

Abstract guidelines:

  • In the abstract, include the title of the poster, nature or significance of the topic, research question(s), methods, results, and conclusion
  • Include specifications for the poster and any restrictions that have to be met
  • Length: 250 words
  • Submit as a PDF
  • Name the file TitleofPoster_Abstract_STC14

Winner Selection: A panel of judges, composed of academic and practitioner members of STC, will evaluate the content and design of all submissions. Those selected to present at the Summit also will be judged on delivery. First, second, and third place awards will be presented at the Summit Honors Banquet, Tuesday evening, 20 May.

Attending the Summit:  STC student members are provided a discounted registration fee prior to 30 April 2014 of $175. If a student is not a member of STC, s/he can join at the student rate of $75. Student members of STC can also apply to volunteer to work at the Summit to cover the registration fee.

Deadlines/important dates:

  •  10 March 2014: deadline for poster submission
  •  24 March 2014: notification of selection
  •  20 May 2014: presentation and final judging of selected posters at the Summit
