Staying in Touch With Your Community

Coordinating with members, volunteers and administration council members across a large geographic or metropolitan area can be challenging. STC Houston coordinates with admin council members using Skype and Google Drive, and STC France keeps in touch with members using MailChimp. Erika Frensley describes how STC Houston uses Skype and Google Drive for STC Houston meetings and business. Toni Ressaire talks about using MailChimp and principles that would apply to any email software.

On the last day of work, I received a call from a recruiter asking if I could meet with a client who was convinced that I was the right candidate for the job. To my surprise, the interviewer was an STC member, had read my writing samples, and liked them. I was hired on the spot. Being an STC member was advantageous, but it wasn’t the only reason I was hired.

A Year of Growth: STC 2015 Year In Review

The Society for Technical Communication is pleased to publish its 2015 Year in Review, highlighting accomplishments, major initiatives, and updates to programming that advance the mission of the STC.

The report reviews accomplishments in the past year and the actions taken by the board, staff, and volunteers to strengthen the Society, both in terms of the value and satisfaction it provides members and its sustainability as a business. The report is intended to give members insight and information about the association they have so generously supported. Included in the report are details on ongoing programming (membership, education, conference, online presence, and publications), highlights on new programs (reopening of CPTC certification), new benefits, and a financial update.
