Introducing the New STC Website!

We are delighted to unveil the new STC.org today! The new site is a huge leap forward from our previous site, and a strong first step toward bringing members the value they expect from STC.

(If you do not see the new STC.org yet, it is because your Internet Service Provider has not updated their Domain Name Service records. It may be a few more hours before your ISP updates to the correct DNS.)

As we informed members via email earlier this week, testing revealed a break in our member authentication system that prevented the full release of the site. We decided to release the “public” side of the site to members now while we work on correcting the iMIS authentication problems. We’re referring to these stages as Beta Release 1.0 and Beta Release 1.1.

Beta Release 1.0

The public-facing section of the website provides the information that a prospective or current member might need to know about STC programs and communities. These pages are open to the public and well indexed to be searchable as part of the site's main search box.

You will likely notice a very different look and feel to the site. The new design presents Society information in an easier-to-read, easier-to-find way. A great deal of thought went into the information architecture, and we hope that you will find your overall experience with the site to be intuitive and user-friendly.

Items of Note

  • All actions that require member log-in are currently being served through the “old” STC site due to the authentication problems. Beta Release 1.1 (see below) will integrate these actions with the new site. With this, there is currently no general “Log In” function for the site. Specific items requiring a login will have links.
  • If your community website currently authenticates members through the STC site, your community’s leaders will need to reset that authentication. Please email Chip Boyd to do so.

Beta Release 1.1

We remain on track to deliver an enhanced set of members-only features in the weeks ahead, including the following:

  • Integrated authentication with STC's member management system iMIS.
  • An integrated registration process for events such as Live Web Seminars and Certificate Courses. All communities will be able to utilize both the paid events features and the STC Network for events.
  • Permissions-based document management to enable communities to collaborate in ways other than in discussion threads on the STC Network or email mailing lists.
  • The STC Network to provide SIGs, Chapters, committees, and working groups with private or semi-private areas where they can discuss issues and interact with others.
  • Members can also create personal profiles and interact with other members of SIGs or Chapters, post and review events, and collaborate on group projects.
  • “My STC” will serve as a single, convenient place to access all STC membership resources and account management functions.

In the future, we will develop the option to link to integrated community microsites (ICMs). This integration will allow STC communities to host their entire Web presence as part of the STC.org domain and develop a more customized experience for their constituents.

Your Feedback

You’ll see a handy Feedback tab throughout the site along the left side. If you see a broken link or a typo, please alert us. Alternatively, if you see something you like or if you think of something that would be a wonderful addition to the site, let us know. We consider the site to be in perpetual beta, and it’s only with the help of our members that we can continue its improvement.

Once again, welcome to the new STC website. Come in, make yourself at home, and tell us what you think!

  1. I’d like to see more of the plans and schedules for the site be published, at least for member eyes. While I love the new look, the site needs serious work. Absolutely zero SEO work was done, for example, which is significantly bad.

  2. We’re now 1+ month since the launch of the new site. Can someone provide an update of where we are and when we can expect to have the rest of Phase 1 turned on?

    Tx

  3. A small thing… when I sign in, the webpage does not show my name. Initially, I thought that I had not signed in properly, but I did and I was “in” – just couldn’t see any evidence that I had made it.
