On behalf of the Society for Technical Communication’s Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that STC has chosen Liz Pohland as its next Chief Executive Officer. Liz is the seventh executive director in the 64-year history of the Society.
As many of you know, Liz brings over 20 years of experience in technical and professional communication to the position. With STC, Liz previously held the role of Director of Communications and Intercom Editor, and has been heavily involved in the development and launch of STC’s Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) Certification Program. She has worked for multiple nonprofit organizations during the course of her career, including the Folger Shakespeare Library and Princeton University Press.
“I’m excited and honored at the opportunity to lead STC, an organization I consider my professional home,” said Liz. “I believe STC’s growth in the coming years will depend on its ability to re-establish itself as the authoritative voice for the technical communication profession. In today’s content- and information-based economy, STC is uniquely positioned to advocate for its members’ interests. I am deeply committed to STC’s success in all of its endeavors.”
The Search Committee conducted an intensive search that began with 65 qualified candidates. Narrowing the pool of candidates through phone and in-person interviews, the committee worked hard to ensure it found a CEO who has the right combination of association management experience and technical communication knowledge to take STC to the next level. Liz’s background as a technical communicator is a huge asset in her upcoming role that will enable her to more closely identify with our members and serve them in an empathetic way.
Liz impressed the Search Committee in the interviews with her ambitions to drive STC forward and make changes for the good of the Society. She has a strong vision for STC and specific plans for continuing to improve STC in marketing, certification, and education.
