Kari Chalker

Lead Environmental Planner, SWCA Environmental Consultants

Kari Chalker is a lead environmental planner at SWCA Environmental Consultants. Her diverse background includes 20 years in technical editing, technical writing, and quality assurance, quality control (QA/QC) with a focus on the National Environmental Policy Act, cultural resources, and environmental sciences. She has created QA/QC tools and workflows for use across SWCA’s enterprise and for large, complex projects; she manages writing teams, including subcontractors; and she guides writers in interpreting complex scientific and legal information into plain language for a public audience. Under Ms. Chalker’s leadership, SWCA has won two Best of Show awards from the Society for Technical Communication. Ms. Chalker previously served as Principal Managing Editor for SWCA and hired, trained, and managed a large team of editors, formatters, and specialists in Section 508 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act.
