Mary Elise (Mel) Dedicke earned an MS in Tech Comm from RPI in 1993. She’s worked as a tech writer in the Capital District of New York State for the past 30 years, starting out at General Electric then moving to financial services – KeyBank in the late 1990s (using dumb terminals) and Fleet in the early 2000s. Mel switched to the software industry in 2006 when she joined MapInfo (acquired by Pitney Bowes in 2007), eventually becoming an Agile practitioner and a Certified ScrumMaster. In 2019, she made another leap to a much smaller company (Kitware, Inc.) that develops advanced technical computing solutions via its open source platforms. She’s been an STC member since 1994 and held a variety of leadership roles in both the Rochester and former Mohawk chapters.
