If you’re looking for a way to unwind one evening during Summit 2012, I highly recommend a comedy show. Chicago is home to world-class comedy venues, including one of the most famous in the country, Second City. Comedy greats like John Belushi, Mike Myers, and Bill Murray all trained at Second City. Two Chicagoans who took classes at Second City launched their own improv theater, Chemically Imbalanced Comedy, right here in Chicago. It takes guts and a lot of talent to compete with Second City. These Chicagoans obviously have what it takes to succeed. The theater is now in its 11th season. This New Year’s Eve, I rang in 2012 with a show at Chemically Imbalanced. The seating at Chemically Imbalanced is intimate. You can sit just feet from the actors, who believe that improv requires audience participation. This makes for a really fun night. New Year’s Eve was fun. The audience was treated to a rare appearance by Judy, a character who could have just stepped off the stage of Saturday Night Live. A blend of advice columnist, psychotherapist, and Jewish grandmother, Judy counseled audience members on the nice and not-so-nice gifts they received during the holidays. I’m not sure when Judy will make another appearance. If you’ll be in Chicago on a Friday night, I recommend seeing improv at Chemically Imbalanced. Critics rave, “Pimprove is one of the most original and hilarious unscripted shows in town.” This show is far from politically correct. If that’s okay with you, you’re sure to laugh until it hurts.
