The Chicago Summit Host Committee is well into planning for the 2012 Summit at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, IL. The committee, currently numbering 31, was very visible at the Sacramento Summit this past May. Volunteers at the Chicago Summit booth handed out hundreds of “Rosemont–Chicago 2012” ribbons and stickers that said “See you in CHICAGO, Illinois.” Especially well received was the appearance of the “Blues Brothers” at the closing luncheon. After a brief video about Chicago and Rosemont, a musical introduction preceded the entrance of the Blues Brothers, Jake and Elwood Blues, and a bunch of Blues Brothers and Sisters—complete in Blues Brothers outfits, including hats and dark glasses. Elwood and Jake invited STC members to Chicago in their unique Blues Brother way and drew winning tickets for complimentary registrations to next year’s Summit. At the end, “Sweet Home Chicago” was played as committee members and the president of STC danced on the stage. Needless to say, no one left Sacramento without a clear idea of where next year’s Summit will be held. Current plans for 2012 are focusing on unusual ways to entertain and involve STC members at the Communities Reception, and working on ideas similar to popular events in past years. You can count on a few unexpected twists for attendees in Chicago next May! Between now and next May, the Chicago Host Committee will be providing information about the 2012 Summit in many ways. Every month Intercom will feature articles about various aspects of the Summit, including the program and activities in the area around Chicago. The registration package, coming out before the end of the year, will have information about tours and activities available in the Chicago area in addition to the Summit registration materials. STC Summit Blog: Up-to-date information about restaurants in Rosemont and Chicago, attractions in the Chicago area, tips on getting around, and other important information for Summit attendees will be featured and regularly updated on this blog. In addition, the blog will contain reviews and recommendations from Chicago Chapter members regarding restaurants and attractions for visitors. A collection of the articles featured in Intercom will be on the Summit website, and supplemental information related to the articles will also be included on the blog. Check it out!
