If you had five minutes to deliver an STC Summit presentation, what would you say? What would you say if you had 20 slides, displayed for 15 seconds each? Lightning Talks are a new addition to the STC Summit for 2011. This session will feature a series of five-minute presentations on topics of interest to technical communicators. Who will deliver the lightning talks? You will. A good lightning talk might be insightful, inspiring, thought-provoking, useful, humorous, controversial, or enlightening. Lightning talks are almost always fun, for both the speaker and the audience. As a speaker, the lightning talk format will test your oratory skills. The timing of the slides and the presentation is strictly enforced. You must provide 20 slides, displayed for 15 seconds each, and you won’t control the slides. The Lightning Talks session is scheduled for Wednesday, 18 May, 10:00-11:00 AM. For an example of a well-done lightning talk, see “Great Designers Steal.” Send your proposed lightning talk title and short description to Alan Houser by email or call +1-412-450-0532 by 11 April 2011. Eight lightning talks will be accepted.
