These sponsored events are organized by the Phoenix Chapter of STC. You must register for these events in advance, and can register when you register for the Summit. Monday, 19 May, 7:30 PM Helvetica Movie Night at FilmBar, 815 N. 2nd Street, Phoenix Cost: Thanks to the generosity of the STC Phoenix Chapter’s sponsor, Discount Tire, the price for this event has been reduced to $15 per person, which will include a free drink, popcorn, and light snacks; you must register by 1 May to attend Have you ever thought about the impact that a simple typeface might have on our modern society? The full-length documentary, Helvetica, explores this impact through dynamic discussions with more than 20 type and graphic designers in Europe and the United States, blending topics of design, advertising, psychology and communication in a fast-paced, creatively-edited and engaging film. The STC Phoenix Chapter has arranged for a private showing of Helvetica at the FilmBar, a combined beer/wine bar and 70-seat movie theater within walking distance of the Phoenix Convention Center. Join us for a fun night out at the movies! For more information, email STC Phoenix. Wednesday, 21 May, 3:00–9:00 PM Evening at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N. Central Ave., Phoenix Cost: FREE! Registration not required After the hustle and bustle of Summit is over, you may long for some quiet time. Enjoy some solitude while reflecting on the art of various masters at the Phoenix Art Museum, located just a short ride north of the Convention Center on the Phoenix Metro Light Rail system. Eat in the museum’s Palette restaurant, browse more than 17,000 works of art, and celebrate more than 100 years of cinema storytelling at the Hollywood Costume exhibit. Beginning with the November/December issue of Intercom, members of the Phoenix Chapter will provide articles suggesting tourist activities attendees can undertake on their own before or after the Summit.
