If you love music, Chicago is a great place to be. Any night of the week, you can hear live music. Your choices include just about any genre you can imagine. Blues, jazz, folk, rock, hip hop, and samba are just a few.

Montrose Room

The Montrose Room in Rosemont offers an intimate setting for seeing a band

Chicago’s music scene extends to Rosemont. A great place for live music is the Montrose Room, which is located a few blocks from the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. The Montrose Room is a small, intimate venue inside the Intercontinental Hotel. In my opinion, this venue lives up to its claim of “the best place for live music just outside the City.” It draws great musicians. Recently, I saw a phenomenal Beatles tribute band, the Cavern Beat, for just $15.00. If you closed your eyes, you could pretend that you’d traveled back in time and the original Fab Four was on stage. We sat in the first row, which is located just a few feet from the stage. If that’s too close for you, don’t fret. There truly is not a bad seat in the house. Behind the seats, you’ll find a standing-room-only section for those on a tight budget. Whether you sit or stand, the acoustics are superb. The bar menu has something for everyone. The prices are better than clubs in the City, too. Montrose Room

Other music venues in Rosemont

Other places to see live music in Rosemont are: Abruzzi’s This place serves affordable Italian food and offers a full bar. Bands play here on some weekend nights. Café Zalute and Retro Bar While I drive past this place every day, I’ve never been in. It seems that a lounge act plays here about every other weekend. I’m told that you can dance the night away in the Retro Bar. The DJ spins Motown, R&B, and disco.

Recommendations beyond Rosemont

Gospel Brunch at the House of Blues Every Sunday at 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM: The first gospel choir sang right here in Chicago in the 1920s, and gospel is still going strong. Chicago School of Folk Music Friday, 18 May at 8:00 and 10:00 PM: You can listen to musicians from Spain play what sounds like an enthralling mix of flamenco, jazz, and bossa nova. Chicago Symphony Orchestra Wednesday, 23 May at 7:30 PM: Listen to one of world’s leading orchestras play George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. You may be wondering why I have no blues recommendations. After all, Chicago is home to the blues. I’ll give you the scoop on the blues scene in another post.
