Students in Drexel University’s Department of Communication gain broad theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience as they work toward a future in marketing, journalism, technical editing, and countless other areas in which communication skills are essential.
The Master of Science in Communication educates students on designing ethical, audience-centered, theory-based communications for the public, industry, media, government and non-profit organizations. Courses develop professional skills to produce, analyze and monitor print, digital and audio-visual communications in a global society. Professors have academic training and industry expertise to help students apply theory and research in professional communication. The program specializes in threee areas: Public Communication, Science Communication and Technical Communication.
Technical Communication provides skills in technical writing, computer documentation and training to prepare students for careers in a wide range of industries, from social networking to publishing to health insurance. Students choose from courses such as Technical Writing, Technical and Science Graphics and Technical and Science Editing.
Students take 45 credits of coursework on the quarter system for the Master of Science in Communication; 24 of those credits are required courses, 21 are graduate electives. In order to ensure that our students are workforce ready, students participate in a six-month, full-time internship. Matriculated students who come into the program with relevant work experience or who are working concurrently with their enrollment in the program are able to apply for an internship waiver.
