Li-At Rathbun has over 20 years of technical communication experience (yes, since kindergarten). For the last eleven of those years, she’s worked primarily as the technical editor at Yardi Systems—an international software company. Li-At also teaches the popular “Technical Editing Foundations” STC online course.
Li-At began volunteering with STC on the first night she attended a meeting (in 2000, at the Los Angeles chapter) and she’s continuously served in various STC leadership positions ever since. She’s currently the Santa Barbara chapter president and immediate past co-manager of the Technical Editing SIG. She’s also held various positions on the Los Angeles chapter council and the Technical Editing SIG council, and she’s served in regional initiatives (SoCal Spotlight Publications Competition) and STC-wide endeavors (like the CAC Outreach Team and as a 2017 Summit Track Manager).
Li-At presented at the STC Technical Editing Virtual Conference, Summit 2015 Leadership Day, Spectrum 2016 Leadership Day, Spectrum 2016, Summit 2016, and Summit 2017.
Outside of STC, Li-At is involved with TC Camp— an “unconference” focused on technical communication issues, skills, and challenges. She also co-founded TechCommSpeakersBureau.org—a site that helps connect groups that are looking for technical communication speakers with experts that are available to present.
Outside of technical communication, Li-At enjoys improv. If you’re in Santa Barbara on the first Saturday of any given month, you might catch her in a show.
