Li-At Rathbun began volunteering on the first night she attended an STC meeting (in 2000, at the Los Angeles chapter) and has continuously served in leadership roles since. She’s helped bring value to STC at the local, regional, virtual, national, and global levels.
Li-At is currently the Santa Barbara chapter president, acting president of the Los Angeles chapter, and immediate past co-manager of the Technical Editing SIG. Aside from her communities involvement, Li-At has served in regional initiatives (SoCal Spotlight Publications Competition) and STC-wide endeavors (like the CAC Outreach Team and as a 2017 Summit Track Manager).
Li-At has over 20 years of technical communication experience (yes, since kindergarten). For the last twelve of those years, she’s worked primarily as the technical editor at Yardi Systems—an international software company. She also teaches the popular “Technical Editing Foundations” STC online course and presents at conferences and communities (in 2018, she was invited to re-present her session at Summit as a “Best of the Best Presenter”). She is an STC Associate Fellow, as well as recipient of numerous volunteering awards. You can find more information about this on her LinkedIn page.
Throughout her STC journey, Li-At has met some terrific people. She is running for the Nominating Committee so that she can use her STC network, knowledge of STC, and interpersonal skills to help recruit terrific Board of Directors candidates.
Outside of STC, Li-At is involved with TC Camp—an “unconference” focused on technical communication issues, skills, and challenges. She also co-founded TechCommSpeakersBureau.org—a site that helps connect groups that are looking for technical communication speakers with experts that are available to present.
Outside of technical communication, Li-At enjoys improv. If you’re in Santa Barbara on the first Saturday of any given month, you might catch her in a show.
