Brett Oppegaard

Brett Oppegaard, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the School of Communications at the University of Hawaii. He researches intersections of technical communication, mobile technologies, journalism, public rhetoric, and media accessibility in interdisciplinary ways. He teaches a variety of media-production courses at UH, including the principles of media-accessibility integration. His national-award-winning research project about Audio Description, called The UniDescription Project (www.unidescription.org), has been supported by more than $1 million in external grants, from such sources as the U.S. National Park Service, the U.S. National Endowment for the Humanities, the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts, and Google. The project also has been directly supported by the American Council of the Blind since 2017.
