Content Management and Reuse Use Case: How to Explore, Select, and Implement a Solution

It can be overwhelming to explore a new technology solution to support your company’s needs, which often leads to inaction. Companies today realize that they need to take advantage of content reuse in order to save time, save money, and generate higher quality documentation.  A successful content reuse implementation requires a well-planned, well-thought-out content reuse strategy and a technology that effectively supports this strategy. Often, technical communicators are the best people to lead this effort because they are working with the content, tools, and writing teams who are critical to the success of any content reuse and management efforts.

There is no universal, one-size-fits-all content reuse solution.  There are countless vendor products, each differing in features, functionality, price, and complexity.  With all these possibilities, it's easy to get lost. In this discussion, we will explore how to approach determining what you need out of a content reuse and management solution and how to ensure implementation is successful.

Lisa Pietrangeli’s experience working with customers who have adopted her company’s content reuse product, SmartDocs, is extensive. Some teams begin never having considered a solution previously, others are migrating from a less-than-satisfactory solution to SmartDocs. As supporting real-world experience, Lisa will include a customer’s use case from Challenge to Solution to Results to help illustrate what type of experience companies can expect from the implementation process. She will also offer practical handouts upon request which will assist any company in search of a solution.
