Chapter Spotlight: San Francisco

We’re back with another Spotlight, this time taking a closer look at the San Francisco band of STC members. Our thanks to Gilbert Gonzalez for his answers! If you’d like your chapter or SIG spotlighted, please email me to volunteer.

When did the chapter originate?
It’s about 20 years old, but I’m not sure.

How many members do you have?
As of 11/30/2009: 161.

Who makes up your Chapter leadership?
The following new leaders take office on January 1: President: Leah Scampoli, Vice President: Larry Pastori, Treasurer: Marc Smircich; Secretary: Andra Zamacona.

Provide a one-sentence description of your chapter.
The San Francisco chapter is a talented and distinguished chapter.

What types of technical communicators are prevalent in your chapter?
Our members are in the forefront of new trends and tools of the profession.

Describe a generic chapter meeting for us.
Our normal meeting agenda includes a segment where we can let people that we are looking for jobs get up and tell about their job search—and also announce available jobs.  We then see a presentation from a qualified technical communicator.  Did I forget about the food?

Brag a little bit, about anything you want.
From elected leaders to volunteer leaders, we have an exceptional leadership.

Is there a Chapter that you consider sort of a “parent” Chapter? Or maybe a sibling? How about a second cousin, once removed?
Along with San Francisco, Berkeley Silicon Valley and North Bay are siblings.

Who’s your funniest member and why?
The San Francisco chapter is unique with all kinds of interesting individuals.

Who’s your smartest member and why?
When the room is packed with smart individuals, it is difficult to tell.

What would be your chapter’s signature cocktail? Appetizer? Meal?
Probably a glass of white wine and Pub fare.

Any last comments or thoughts?
The San Francisco chapter is a group of intellegent and unique individuals.
