Intercom is Now Fully Online!

Intercom is now fully online! Yes, the final step in the in-depth overhaul to Intercom is complete, with an online HTML version of the magazine. This is in addition to the online PDF version we’ve already been offering. The Intercom Redesign Task Force spent months discussing the website and the design of the magazine, working hand-in-hand with our vendor to give members what they’ve asked for.

“I’m thrilled about Intercom’s increased online presence,” said Intercom’s editor, Liz Pohland. “It broadens the magazine’s potential, by opening it up to the world of online communication, beyond print, and toward reader interaction. I’m certain STC will receive a lot of positive feedback about the new direction.”

Members told us they wanted to read the magazine in various ways, and STC has listened, providing FOUR ways to read Intercom. You can:

  • Read the HTML version online
  • Read the “regular” PDF
  • Read the enhanced “flipbook” PDF
  • Purchase and read a print copy

Whichever way you prefer to read your magazines, now you can.

Intercom Online comes on the heels of the full redesign of Intercom, which started with the April issue. We’ve given the magazine a fresh new look, and the new website is the final stage of the redesign. The Intercom website is built on WordPress, too, which will allow us to take advantage of many of their widgets as the site evolves.

To read the new Intercom, click on the “Intercom” button from the STC website, https://www.stc.org/. If you access the site through stc.org and are already logged in there, your log-in status will be authenticated immediately! To access the site directly, go to http://intercom.stc.org/. If you’re not already logged in at that site, use the “Login” button at the right side of the top menu bar.

Once you’re on the new Intercom website, the current issue will be displayed. (Archives of past online issues can be accessed under the “archives” header on the right side.) You can click on a specific article, or click on a department such as “Features” or “Columns” to see the list of articles in that department and the first paragraph from the article as a teaser. If you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to do so in order to read more. If you are logged in, simply click on the article to read it or on the “Download PDF” to read or print a PDF of that one article.

To read or download the full issue in regular or flipbook PDF form, see the links at the bottom footer under the heading of “Meta.” Note: If you’re not logged in, these links will not appear. You must be logged in to access the full PDFs of the magazine.

As with any website, the new Intercom site will be constantly evolving and improving. We have a current “wish list” of features and improvements but welcome your suggestions. Send them to intercom@stc.org and we’ll review them periodically.

Explore the new site and choose which version of Intercom works best for you!
