Project Phoenix: The Road Ahead

Last month, STC introduced Project Phoenix: The Rebirth & Renewal of STC to members. STC President Michael Hughes laid out the goals, with a promise of continued information as things progressed.

Today STC unveils “The Road Ahead” for the next nine months of Project Phoenix. Included are multiple surveys, focus groups, webcasts, and leadership roles. See the image below for a visual timeline, and visit the Project Phoenix page for a full description of the road ahead and how you can help.

  1. Is the “Launch New Website” (scheduled for Jan 2011) different then the Community Social Website (originally scheduled for June 2010)? And, if so, why will we have two different web site portals?

      1. Please tell me that they’re at least built on the same technology….

Maybe I’m dense, but why don’t we simply have a single system/portal/whatever, and put member-only stuff behind the login?

        1. STC.org will be built on a content management system that includes integration at various points to a number of web properties including Technical Communication, Intercom, and Notebook as well as the professional social network and member self-service areas. The reason they aren’t all part of the same system is that each has a different feature set and was implemented at different times along the way. The new STC.org will have a “single portal” feel, but it won’t be completely integrated from a technology perspective in the initial release.

  2. Thanks for the clarification Michael. It sounds like this will be a great step in the right direction for STC.

Is there any updated word on when any of this will begin to be rolled out to members?
