I am pleased to publish the results of the initial survey we conducted as part of Project Phoenix, an investigatory survey across a small group of representative constituents of STC. We did this small group to help us decide if we are asking the right questions and what additional questions we need to ask. We are using the results to shape the next survey, which will go out this month to the STC membership at large and help us determine the products and services we need to emphasize as we go forward.
We sent this first survey to the following groups:
- The STC Board of Directors
- The past presidents of STC
- STC Chapter and SIG leaders
- A selected group of former STC members
- A selected group of influential technical communication bloggers
Even though a survey of such a hand-picked sample cannot be used to make inferences about the population of technical communicators at large, their opinions and views were helpful in understanding the landscape, so to speak. Download the STC Brand Perception Survey Analysis to read the analysis of the results.
I am sharing the report with everyone because I want you to see the same data that the Project Phoenix team and the Board of Directors are seeing as we make our decisions.
Kathryn Burton, our CEO, blogged last week on our first decision—the new 2011 membership package, which is based on the input received not only from Project Phoenix but other member communications as well.
Hillary Hart, our Vice President, will be blogging soon to start a dialogue around key issues and themes highlighted in the survey results.
I want to encourage you to add your voice to the conversation by participating in the upcoming discussions and member-wide survey. I look forward to hearing your thoughts throughout this exciting time in STC.
Big thanks for sharing the analysis of the survey results!
