Guest post from Sally Henschel, Academic SIG
On Thursday, 27 September 2012, the STC Academic SIG, in cooperation with the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC), will host a one-day Partnership Preconference on the day before the annual CPTSC conference. The preconference, “Partnerships for Professionalism: Collaboration, Diversity, and Technology in Academia and Industry,” takes place at Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan, but also includes a virtual component.
Our goal is to foster conversation between practitioners and educators while complementing the theme of the annual CPTSC meeting. A hybrid conference, “Partnerships for Professionalism” will accept both face-to-face and virtual proposals.
As was done in last year’s inaugural preconference, we will offer multiple topics of interest across industry/academia boundaries; seek to involve practitioners, educators, and students in the panels; and offer a mix of virtual and face-to-face presentations.
Please consider joining us for this one-day, hybrid pre-conference by submitting a “lightning” proposal (of 100 words or less) for an eight-minute presentation that complements one of the following panel topics:
- Intercultural communication, collaboration, and diversity
- Pedagogy, e-learning, and continuing education
- Collaborative technologies and applications
- Research priorities and partnerships
Include in your proposal your status as a practitioner, educator, and/or student, and whether you plan to present virtually or in person. Send proposals to the Academic SIG on or before 13 July 2012.
There is no cost for attending or presenting at the preconference. If you have questions, please contact Pam Brewer.
