Doc-To-Help Tech Comm Wire: “Summer School” Series Concludes with Single-Sourcing Workshop

Studies have shown that people learn more effectively by “doing” in hands-on exercises and workshops than they do by “hearing” information in lectures and presentations. With that in mind, the Doc-To-Help team put together a series of three free, fun, interactive workshops that highlight some of the key features of the software.

The final of these three workshops is on Single-Sourcing for Print, Web, and Mobile and is happening Wednesday, 14 August, from 2:00-3:30 PM EDT (GMT-4).

Attendees will need to download a trial version of the software and be willing to get their hands dirty, as they’ll be working through a number of exercises and tutorials.

With Doc-To-Help, you can single-source to twelve different outputs. These outputs include browser-based Help, several types of desktop Help, Mobile Help, EPUB, and Manuals. You can even publish to a SharePoint site.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to use Doc-To-Help’s conditional text, variables, related topics, and Theme Designer features to manage a single-source workflow that includes Mobile and EPUB, in addition to traditional online Help, Web content, and printed manuals.

You’ll discuss and learn how to:

  • Manage graphics and tables
  • Adapt a table of contents
  • Manage Desktop vs. Mobile terminology
  • Improve navigation
  • Manage indexes

Here are links to recorded versions of the other two sessions, in case you missed the June session on The Basics or the July session on Branding Your Web-based Outputs.
