Yes, I return to you a married man after a wonderful honeymoon in Costa Rica. Costa Rica was a beautiful country, but I’d be lying to you if I didn’t say I feel lucky to get out of the country alive. You see, sitting on the shuttle bus at the resort—five minutes away from leaving for the airport to return home—I realized I left my wedding ring back in the hotel room. If the wonderful staff at the Paradisus Playa Conchal hadn’t rushed back to get it for me, I think my new wife would have killed me.
I return renewed and refreshed, though, and thought what better time to ask for feedback on how we might renew and refresh STC’s Notebook. Are there any features you’d like to see added? Any people you’d like to hear from? Random member profiles? More Spotlights? (I’m trying to find more subjects, so please email if you’d like to volunteer your chapter or SIG!) Perhaps some techcomm-related Caption This photos? I’m all ears!
In the meantime, I’ve posted below the jump a small selection of the photos I took in Costa Rica. I have about 60 of them up on Flickr as well. Feel free to email me if you’d like to see more!
A toucan from afar.
Different toucan, much closer.
One day we visited Volcano Arenal. This is the view from where we had dinner (that bar on the right is a window pane). The puff of smoke I’ve pointed at is the remnants of a fiery ball of lava the volcano spewed. The smoke at the top is from the volcano as well.
Another night we visited the nearby town of Brasilito and ate at a restaurant called El Camaron Dorado, or The Golden Shrimp. The restaurant was on the beach, with a view of the most amazing sunset.

A little bird that landed right next to us on a pool chair in the pouring rain.
The heliconia psittacorum, or Parrot’s Beak.
Warning: Monkey Crossing.
A white-faced coati. This one lived right by the hotel lobby and often wandered up to guests checking in.
The resort also featured a lake that was home to dozens of iguanas. This one was being fed chunks of cantelope. Another liked to wander to the pool and steal cherries from mixed drinks.
Another of the colorful flowers at the resort.
And finally, this is half of the mariachi band that serenaded us at The Golden Shrimp.
Looks like you had a great time Kevin! Welcome back!
Congratulations!! Looks like a wonderful trip!
