A Community Affair: Who’s There to Help Communities? Part 2 of 3

Guest post by the Community Affairs Committee.

Last week, we met some of the Community Affairs Committee (CAC) leads. Each one of the CAC members firmly believes that strong communities = strong STC. Meet a few more CAC members, who are dedicated to help your communities.

Ben Woelk is the team lead and architect of the Outreach Team that is supporting community leaders worldwide. He is a policy and awareness analyst in the information security office at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is adjunct professor in the department of computing security and department of communication. Ben serves as the awareness and training working group co-chair of the EDUCAUSE Higher Education Information Security Council. He is a previous president of the Rochester chapter and believes that communities are the life blood of STC. In his spare time … never mind.

Anna Parker-Richards is the immediate past president of the STC Toronto Chapter and a member of the STC CAC Outreach Team for Canada. She is program coordinator for Seneca College’s post-graduate certificate in technical communication and teaches a course entitled The Technical Communicator in which students learn about the role of the technical communicator, the tasks that technical communicators typically perform, and the issues that technical communicators often face in the business world. Anna also teaches document design and business writing to students in technology-oriented programs.

Anna has been involved in technical communications for over 15 years with experience in technical writing, training development and facilitation, product management, professional services, and marketing. Her technical writing expertise lies in improving customer service experiences and sales through targeted information solutions. For more details, please visit her LinkedIn profile.

Viqui Dill is a Senior Member of STC, the social media manager for STC’s Washington DC Baltimore Chapter, and the communications manager for our Community Affairs Committee. She speaks a multitude of languages online, including Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, WordPress, blogger, LinkedIn, and MySTC, and she wants to connect with you. Viqui describes herself as “Technical writer, wife and mom, bass player, worship leader, I’m happiest when folks sing along with me.”

Andrea Wenger is a senior technical writer with Schneider Electric in Raleigh, NC. With seventeen years’ experience in technical communication, she is president of the Carolina Chapter and communications manager of the Technical Editing SIG. In 2010, she served on the STC Community Support and Funding Task Force. She writes about grammar and style in Carolina Communique, the newsletter of the Carolina Chapter. In her spare time, she blogs about writing and personality at WriteWithPersonality.com.

Tune in again next week to meet the rest of the CAC members. If you need help, or have a question or suggestion, don’t hesitate to contact us.
