If we’re not careful, our writing can include wordiness, redundancies, and dangling or misplaced modifiers. Maybe these errors occur because we’re pushing to meet deadlines, we’re not good at editing our own work, or time just doesn’t permit us to do the in-depth recheck of our work that we’d like to do. You probably weren’t aware that these writing offenses unintentionally reveal negative attitudes toward our readers.

In this webinar we will look at how to catch and eliminate wordiness, redundancy, and dangling or misplaced modifiers so that our writing will be clear and concise. Examining the negative attitudes we unintentionally reveal will help us set a high priority on clarity and conciseness. We’ll do this by shopping in the Petites Department, taking apart some hilarious examples of dangling and misplaced modifiers, and examining what some famous people (even within STC) have said about improving our writing. We’ll even explore how one blogger has refuted the notion that technical communicators “dumb down” information.

During this interactive session, attendees will gain multiple examples of before-and-after examples, as well as a practice sheet to share with colleagues at work over lunch or at an after-work gathering. Attendees will also gain a list of websites and references to help them in their quest for more clear and concise writing.
